Lack of Sleep
The most obvious health issue relating to your bed is that an uncomfortable mattress can cause a lack of sleep. Whether it’s too hard or too soft making you feel like Goldilocks, sagging or creaking springs, lumps or anything else- a poor quality or worn out bed will be affecting your sleep. We all know how unpleasant that groggy, fuzzy headed tiredness is in the morning when we haven’t had a decent kip. But it’s not just short-term problems that you need to worry about. Lack of sleep can result in high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. It has even been linked to obesity and diabetes, so it’s a very serious matter. Getting a bargain is great, but some things in life it’s worth pushing the boat out for and buying the best you can afford. A good bed is one of them.
Allergies and Respiratory Problems
If you’re sensitive to dust, fibres and fabrics, then you’re sure to have had your fair share of issues over the years when it comes to beds. Pillows, mattresses and duvets can be packed with dust mites, who’s waste can trigger allergic reactions. As beds tend to be heavy pieces of furniture, it’s easy for dust to gather under and behind them too- even if you’re vigilant about vacuuming elsewhere in the room. Fibres from certain fabrics and materials can also cause unpleasant symptoms in some people such as itching and breathing issues. It can even trigger an asthma attack so again isn’t something to take lightly. Keep on top of the dust in your room, being sure to clean everywhere that it can accumulate. Pressure Points
Finally, an uncomfortable bed can lead to aches, pains and pressure points. If your pillows have gone flat, you’re likely to suffer neck, shoulder and back pain. If your mattress isn’t supporting your weight correctly, you’re likely to notice pain in your hips and lower back. This can lead to further problems or exacerbate existing ones such as sciatica. Your body needs to be fully supported, foam style mattresses do this much better than springs. There are different types on the market from memory foam to gel to latex.
