If you’ve blown your budget on buying your new home and filling it with the most beautiful contemporary furniture, and now you can’t afford to spend your cash on expensive pieces of art to spice up the walls, don’t worry. Think outside the box and the most beautiful wall furnishings from the most unexpected sources will present themselves to you.
To get you started, here are some everyday objects you can transform into perfect wall art, simply by adding a frame:
Fabrics
Framing a simple piece of fabric, which features a pattern you find pleasing, is a great way to create adorable work art for your home. You can buy enough fabric to fill a frame for as little as a few dollars, depending on the fabric, and it will look just as beautiful as that piece of abstract art hanging at the local gallery. Good fabrics to frame include Indian saris, Japanese kimono swatches and ‘designer’ fabrics.
Origami
Looking for a new hobby? Want to brighten up your walls? Learning origami could help you kill two birds with one stone because once you’ve mastered the art of paper crane making, you can buy some pretty papers, make a bunch of birds and frame them as unique pieces of art in your home.
Calendars
If you’re looking to fill your home with a lot of art, but you have very little money to spare, why not turn your old calendars into individual works of art? If last year’s calendar featured lots of pretty pictures, separate them, frame them and display them around the home. Simple.
Flowers
Been given a beautiful bouquet for a special occasion? Don’t leave them in a vase where they’ll wither and die in no time at all! Press them and preserve them in a beautiful frame so that you can enjoy them for many years to come. It’ll make your home look even more beautiful!
Wallpaper
If you’ve been lusting after a beautiful wallpaper, but it’s a bit out of your budget, buy one roll, out it in a large frame and display it proudly on the wall. That way, you’ll brighten up your home, and you’ll get to look at the beautiful design without breaking the bank.
Scarves
Do you have some pretty silk scarves languishing at the back of your closet, never being worn? Turn them into art, and it’ll only cost you the price of a pretty frame! If you don’t have any scarves of your own, you can usually pick them up for a couple of dollars at the thrifts store.
Vinyl Records
If you’re a music lover and you like strong, pop culture images, you might not be able to stretch to a bona fide pop art print, but you can probably afford to invest in a few of your favorite records. Pop them in a suitable frame, and you can display them proudly on your walls for all to see.
Maps
Maps are great for adding gravitas and a touch of sophistication to the walls, particularly if they’re antique. You can often find old maps in thrift stores and online auction sites, and if you see one going for a steal, you should pick it up and give it a new lease of life on your walls!
