While a lot of buildings today are built from a combination of wood, brick, stone, and concrete, there’s a growing demand for steel buildings. If you’re looking for a new home, or perhaps even in the process of having one built, you might be pleasantly surprised by the benefits of building with steel. Not only does it make your home a much safer place, it can also save your family a lot of money while also helping the environment and helping to protect American jobs and industry.

How steel can help keep your family safe
Steel is one of the safest materials used in modern construction.  extremely durable and remains sturdy, even under extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, and earthquakes. Many tests have been carried out to steel’s durability. Here are some findings that should assure you that a steel home is the safest option for your family:

  • Steel buildings are impervious to winds of up to 150 miles per hour without incurring any damage.
  • Steel is cannot be inhabited by most animals. This ensures your family’s protection from a range of household pests, such as termites and rats. It is also completely water-resistant, making it impervious to mold, mildew or rain damage.
  • Steel buildings can remain standing in major earthquakes.
  • The outer steel shell of a steel home is completely flame retardant.

The requirements for repairing and maintaining steel buildings is virtually non-existent. It’s also an ageless material that’s designed to survive for decades. Steel construction requires a very particular set of skills so you can enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that your steel home is built by highly skilled and experienced professionals. Moreover, the steel industry has exceptional safety standards that eclipse those of the construction industry, so you can be assured that your steel home is constructed in adherence to the highest standard of safety.

Not only is a steel home a safer option for your family, it’s also cheaper than using many other materials. Check out this steel building cost estimator to see how much you could save.

There are many reasons why steel homes are extremely cost-effective. They are quicker and easier to assemble, saving on construction costs. On average, a steel home costs between $50 and $65 per square foot, making it around 30% cheaper than a homemade with brick, stone, or wood. Steel’s special properties afford homeowners numerous financial benefits.

  • Metal construction products are protected by extremely durable paints and coatings to prevent rust or oxidisation. This can ensure a service life of at least 40 years.
  • As a natural conductor of heat, steel is proven to reduce the cost of heating and cooling your home.
  • Maintenance costs for steel buildings are virtually non-existent.
  • Because steel buildings are designed to withstand severe acts of nature, they tend to be cheaper to insure.

  1. This is interesting. The only steel item in Indian households for safety are our Steel cupboards. We literally drag it around whenever we shift our homes. The one at my place is older than my grandpa.

    Nice information!

  7. If I had to have another home built, I will have to go this route. Home maintenance can be costly but if we choose wisely, building a home with steel would be more economical in the long run.

  10. I don't think I've seen steel homes here in the UK. Since the big fire in the London tower block the safety of our homes is definitely something everyone in the UK has been thinking about much more than before.
