For as long as you can
remember, you have loved everything to do with beauty. As a little girl, you
pored over magazines, looking at the makeup on the models. Now as a mom, you
like to read about and try many of the latest beauty trends.
In addition to being interested
in beauty products and trends, you would love nothing more than to get into the
industry and get paid to follow your passion. In order to achieve your goal and
get into your new career, check out the following suggestions:
Focus on current trends
One of the best ways to break
into the beauty industry is to get trained on a current trend. For example,
lash extensions are extremely popular right now, so there are ample
opportunities to learn how to apply them and find a position as a lash
extension professional. There is a huge variety of luxury lashes
on the market, including mega volume, brightly colored extensions and those
that come in different lengths for a more natural look. Order some of the lash
extension styles to acquaint yourself with the way they look and feel, and then
practice by applying them to yourself and friends.
Look for an internship and/or mentor
Internships can be an effective
way to break into the makeup industry. Even if you spend a lot of
your time as an intern assisting a makeup artist and cleaning makeup brushes,
pay attention to everything that is going on around you and learn as much as
you can by observing. To find beauty-related internships in your area, use a
job website like Indeed; they have a section on their website that is devoted
to this type of internship. If you happen to know someone who works in a salon
and/or in another beauty-related field, you might ask them if you can shadow
them while they're at work for a few days.
Check out online beauty schools
As a busy mom, it might be
difficult for you to go to a brick-and-mortar school for beauty training and
certification programs. Fortunately, there are a number of online training
courses that you can take to learn specific techniques or get a more general
education. For example, Sci
Training offers a well-rounded course on the various aspects
related to nail, skin and hair care as well as teaching you about the salon
business and how to work with clients. This in-depth course will present you
with a diploma when you are finished. If you are looking to be certified as a
makeup artist, you can find flexible and remote-learning courses at Online
Makeup Academy; the online curriculum is taught by New York City industry pros
and you will learn the basics as well as advanced techniques.
Start part-time and work up from there
Once you are certified and have
an internship or two under your belt, you might start clamoring to work full
time at a salon. While this can certainly be your goal, consider part-time
employment, which will get your foot in the door at a local salon and help you
gain experience. As a busy mom, working part-time can still give you the
flexibility you need to pick up your kids from school and take them where they
need to go.
Focus on your goal and you’ll get there
As someone who has been
interested in beauty for so long, it would be wonderful to get a job in the
field you love. By learning about current trends as much as possible, seeking
out a mentor and/or internship and working on your education, you will soon be
ready to apply for beauty-related jobs and fulfill your dream.
Quite the helpful start, didn't know where to begin
ReplyDeleteThey used to teach classes in high school, and you could get your license that way. I guess they don't do that anymore. Too bad. Thanks for posting!
