4 Fundamental Pillars Of Parenting For Keeping Kids Healthy

As a parent, it’s natural to worry about whether you’re doing enough to keep your kids healthy. Indeed, there’s a lot to consider from diet to general levels of fitness and let’s not forget emotional wellbeing. Is it as hard as it seems to make sure that you are covering all these areas of your kid’s life? Actually, it might be easier than you think. There are several fundamental pillars of health that you need to focus on for your children. Let’s look at each of these in turn and make sure that you are covering all the boxes. As well as this, we can explore why these areas are important to their wellbeing.

Sweet Dreams

You do need to think about the level of sleep your kids are getting each night. Ideally, your children should be getting at least eight hours every night. How can you ensure this happens? Well, you should start by setting a bedtime. It’s important to stick to this schedule as well as it’s easy for kids to push against it until it erodes completely. At that point, they will pretty much determine their own sleeping pattern, and that’s the last thing you want. Low levels of sleep can impact your child both mentally and physically, even disrupting their development cycle.

Of course, it’s not just about sending your kids to sleep at the right time. You also need to make sure that once they are sent to bed, they actually close their eyes. This guide will teach you some of the ways that you can make sure kids are going to sleep when they go to bed. Unsurprisingly getting to sleep can often be about having the right mattress to provide comfort.

Home Cooking

You can let your kids have junk food as a treat every now and then. But, you should make sure that you are providing home cooking on a regular basis. This is an easy way to make sure that your kids are getting everything they need in their diet from antioxidants to minerals, nutrients, vitamins and protein. Parents often struggle to make time for regular cooking and instead resort to ready-made meals. This issue here, of course, is that ready-made meals are often packed full of sugar and often use leftovers or scraps. In other words, you will be giving your kids the absolute worst food possible.

The good news is that even if you don’t have much time in your schedule, there are plenty of ten-minute healthy meals you can make for your kids like stir-fry. Despite the unhealthy connotations of a fry up, you can use light sunflower oil instead of thick grease.

Fitness

You need to think about keeping your kids fit too. Child obesity is one of the major health issues in the world today. Despite campaigns to reduce the problem, it is still a significant issue in the developed world today. The answer is strength training. People used to believe a lot of crazy things about strength training including that it stunts growth. However, this isn’t true.

Research has shown that strength training is beneficial for everyone including children. With strength training, you can help with growth and development and make sure that your kids don’t put on too much weight. Remember, it is possible to put on weight even when eating healthy if you have an issue with your metabolism or if you consume quantities that are too large. Strength training will help your kids avoid this issue, and you can start at a very young age.

You may also want to think about a more natural way to get your kids exercising. One option would be to encourage them to engage in fitness at school. There are plenty of school activities that will keep your children active and ensure that they work off those calories.

Dental Health

Last but not least, you do need to keep the dental health of your kids in mind as well. It’s important that you don’t let them slack off brushing their teeth and flossing. You might think that this won’t be harmful when they’re young. After all, they’re going to lose their baby teeth anyway. But don’t be so sure because bad habits will die hard. You don’t want them to continue these bad practices as they enter their teenage years because then it can really do some serious damage.

Building on these pillars you should have no trouble keeping the health of your kids in check.

  1. These things are so important, thanks for sharing! As someone who grew up without a mom, I ate a lot of frozen meals growing up. Now that I have three kids of my own, I always try to cook every meal for them! It is not only fun for me to cook, it is so much healthier for my family as well. :)
