There are a lot of
challenges that teens may
face growing up. Many people say that your teenage
years are the best years of your life, but for some people, this simply isn’t
true. There are many trials that you can face as a teen, and a lot of people
don’t realise just how challenging this can be. If you keep reading, you will
find some of the trials that your teen could face as a teenager.
Self Harm
Self-harm is on the rise
and has been steadily over the last couple of decades. Self-harm in 10-14-year-old
girls has tripled since 2009, and the
numbers for boys are not much better. Unfortunately, many teens are turning to
harm themselves these days as a way of coping with the stresses that life is
throwing at them. While you may think that this is something your teen would
never do, we’re sure that almost everyone who has self harmed has had the same
thought at one point or another.
Drug Use
Teens tend to turn to
drugs as a way to escape. What are they escaping from? Well, it's hard to know
exactly as it will be different for each case, but life is not easy for teens,
and sometimes drugs seem like the best way to forget. However, if your teen
gets caught with drugs, they could be arrested. This is why drugs are
particularly dangerous, because not only can they have a negative impact on
your teen's life, it could lead to a jail sentence. If you speak to a criminal defense
attorney, they will tell you
about all the cases that they come across involving young teens and drugs. You
can even ask them to have a word with your teen about this so that they realize
the consequences of what they are doing.
Depression
Depression is very
common among teenagers. Many parents don’t understand teens depression, and it
can lead to it becoming worse. It is estimated that at least 20% of people will
struggle with depression before they reach adulthood and this number is only on
the rise. If you notice that your teen is depressed, you should think about
taking them to a doctor so that they can receive the help that they need.
Ultimately though, what they are going to need most is for you to understand
that they are going through a difficult time and be there to support them.
Bullying
It’s something that all
parents fear, that their child is going to be bullied. Sadly, a lot of people
get bullied, and it is hard for parents to understand why this is happening
to their child. The thing you need to
remember here is not to make it worse. By this, we mean that you should not
take any action that will have a negative backlash for your child. Going to the
school about this issue is a good place to start before you try to take any
further action.
We hope that you found
this article useful and are now more aware of some of the trials that you might
be facing when you have a teen.
