7 Ways To Give Your Home Some TLC In 2019

Towards the end of the year, the motivation for doing housework and renovations certainly come to an end. With Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations fast approaching, most people are starting to wind down for the year - including putting any TLC your house needs on hold. The new year, however, is the perfect time to start thinking about starting those renovations up again.

When a new year starts most people are more motivated than normally, making goals they’d like to achieve for the year. This is the PERFECT time to be thinking about how you’re going to give your home some TLC, as it’s the time you’re most likely to start putting plans into action.

With that in mind, here are 7 ways to give your house some love in 2019:

  1. Redecorate The Walls
If you’re not looking to completely redecorate each room, changing the wallpaper could still make a huge difference (and is much easier than painting every single wall). If you pick a couple of rooms that need a bit of a refresh, you’ll be surprised how much difference a change of color could make. Whether you want to tone it down or add a feature wall - you can have your house looking brand new in no time.

2.  Upgrade Your Windows and Doors

Although most places now have double glazing and new doors, there are still a number of houses that have not yet made the upgrade. If you’re looking to give your house some TLC (as well as some extra warmth) then why not consider upgrading your windows and doors? If it’s your back doors you’re looking to improve, for example, all you need to do is do a quick search for sliding and french patio door installers, then find one you know will do a great job! It’s as easy as that!

3.  Spruce Up With Some Houseplants

Houseplants are known to boost your mood, so having a couple dotted around the rooms you spend the most time in could be a great way to make your place feel more like a home. They’re inexpensive and can add a little something to a room that may need some TLC to bring it to life. If like me, you struggle with keeping houseplants alive you can read this handy guide about the best ones to keep.

4. Have A BIG Spring Clean

The new year is the PERFECT excuse to have a massive spring clean and get rid of anything you longer need. Follow the rule that if you haven’t used it in the past year and it’s not sentimental, then it’s going in the trash. It’s ruthless, but you’ll be surprised how much stuff you have that you no longer need.

Once you’ve cleared out lots of junk you can get to work on cleaning the house from top to bottom. It’s a difficult job, but you'll be so pleased when it’s finished.

5.  Add Some Wall Art And Decorations

If you don’t want to completely redecorate your walls you may find that adding some wall art is a great (inexpensive) alternative. Not only is it incredibly stylish at the moment, but creating a gallery wall will help fill any empty space you have in your house.

It’s a great way to display motivational quotes, stunning imagery, unique prints, and even family photos! To make things even better, it can be super inexpensive if you make your own DIY version. For inspiration, you can check out this fabulous blog post!

6. Update Any Old Furniture

Whilst furniture is built to last a long time, a bit of a refresh can make any room feel brand new. Whether you invest in a new couch, a new mattress or even a new dining room table - it may surprise you how great it can make your house feel! If you’re on a bit of a budget and don’t want to splash out on new furniture, there are lots of different tutorials online about upcycling your old furniture. Often all it takes is a bit of paint and some DIY skills and before you know it you won’t be able to recognize your own furniture anymore.

7. Buy Something You’ve Always Wanted To Buy

If you really want to give your house a little TLC then why not treat yourself to something you have always wanted? Have you been lusting after a grand piano? Dreaming of a $1000 couch? You’ll be surprised how much difference it can make to your home.
