Getting your kids ready for school in the mornings is
often a huge challenge for parents, especially if there’s more than one child.
The trick is to be organised and allow yourself plenty of time, just in case
there are any hiccups. I have teamed up with an independent school in New York
to offer you some advice on how you can save time and ensure the school run
runs smoothly.
First and foremost, be sure to prepare as much as you
can the night before. Encourage your kids to pack their school bags and lay
their uniform out before bed so that everything is ready in the morning. If
your children eat a packed lunch, you should lead by example and make the
sandwiches etc. the night before too. The more you get done the night before as
a family, the more time you’ll have in the morning. Checklists are great for
ticking everything off and making sure you don’t forget anything.
It’s also important to ensure all homework has been done. There’s nothing worse than your child announcing that they have homework due that day that they haven’t done! Help your child become responsible for their own homework by getting them into a habit of checking their timetables and homework planners after school.
Let’s face it, most of us like a lie-in. However,
setting your alarm as early as possible on a school day is the best option if
you want to avoid a mad rush. In fact, make sure you’re up before your little
ones so that you have some time to get yourself ready and organised before you
go on to help them start their day.
The key thing to remember is to try and keep things
regular. Children love regular routines because they allow them to
understand what’s expected of them; eventually, they won’t need you to remind
them to do certain things, it will start to come naturally.
