Five Ways to Practice Self-Care for Fall 2019

As the summer comes to a close, plenty of people are preparing to send children back to school. Others are preparing for the fun of football season, hearty soups and pumpkin spice lattés. However, it's very important to remember to take care of yourself as well. Self-care is a buzz word because so many people place themselves on the back burner. As you transition into the cooler months of the fall, consider the following ways you can prioritize self-care.

1. Switch moisturizers.
Use a moisturizer that's thicker than your spring and summer option. Once you've washed your face and body, it's important to lock that moisture in with the right balm, oil or cream. In some cases, you might need all three options to maintain soft, supple skin. If you can find a thick cream that also contains SPF, this is a great investment. If your favorite fall moisturizer doesn't contain SPF, it's still wise to wear a layer of SPF every single day. Even on a cloudy day, the sun is out. As a result, it has the power to damage the skin when it's not protected.

2. Drink plenty of water.
Water hydrates the body from the inside out. When the temperatures get cooler, so many people reach for their favorite hot drinks like tea and coffee. Unfortunately, both options can be very dehydrating. As a rule, make sure you drink a bottle of water for every cup of coffee or tea you drink. Since your body is primarily made up of water, you need to make sure your organs receive as much of it as possible. Purchase a large BPA-free water bottle to refill every few hours. If you're not in love with water, add some fruit to infuse some flavor. Options like lemons, limes and strawberries always work well.

3. Take daily vitamins.
While vitamins aren't meant to replace the healthy food you need to eat every day, they can definitely supplement what you're missing out on. This is why it's wise to take a daily multivitamin. As more people tend to get sick during the fall and winter seasons, consider increasing your intake of Vitamin C. In fact, before it's time for bed, take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C with rose hips. Many people take their vitamins before bed so that while their bodies are recharging, they're receiving amazing nutrients.

4. Get lots of rest.
Don't underestimate the power of rest. Your body needs to recharge and repair itself from all the stressful experiences it endures throughout the day. Even if you're in the midst of a strength-training program, your muscles need time off to rest. If this is the case for your muscles, this is definitely true for your whole body. There are plenty of people who need eight hours of rest each night. Take time to learn more about your body's need for sleep by tracking the quality of your sleep. Once you know, you'll be able to adjust accordingly.

5. Keep lip balm on hand.
If you want to feel unkempt and disheveled, leave your lip balm at home. Lip balm is one of the easiest products to carry and wear in order to develop a look that's polished. Plus, dry, cracked lips are never attractive. They also feel terrible. As the temperatures get cooler, you'll lose the moisture in the air. As a result, it's easier for your lips to get dry. A product like eos lip balm is really helpful because it's 100% natural, 95% organic and beneficial to the skin. You can purchase a few flavors of eos lip balm. Place them in different purses so that you're never without it.

If you take an honest look at these tips, you'll see that not too difficult to adopt these into your daily regimen. If they seem too overwhelming to try at once, add a new habit to your routine each week. Set timers on your phone to remind you to try more water. As you begin to reap the benefits of your self-care rituals, you'll understand the importance from a different perspective.
